Jeffrey Litt - Superintendent
Prior to joining Icahn Charter Schools Jeffrey Litt was a principal in three New York City Department of Education public schools. While at the Mohegan School in the South Bronx, Mr. Litt adapted E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Program for his Bronx students. He is recognized as a Core Knowledge expert and has trained teachers and administrators throughout the country. Mr. Litt hosted hundreds of educators at the Mohegan School, the second school in the nation to pioneer Core Knowledge. Visitors included administrators from Australia, Great Britain, Italy and Israel. His success in this area has been publicized in educational journals, newspapers and national network television shows. Jeffrey Litt was also noted in the March 1997 issue of The American School Board Journal. Jeffrey Litt is the founding principal of Icahn Charter School 1.
During his tenure as principal of Icahn #1, the school received:

Mr. Litt has received numerous awards as a result of the achievement levels of his students. Among the prestigious awards were: the Brooke Russell Astor Award for Excellence, Citation of Merit from the NYS Assembly, Bronx Borough President and NYC Council, the Thousand Points of Light from President George H. Bush, the Nabisco China Breakers Award, A+ Award from the U.S. Department of Education. He has been featured on WCBS National News, WNBC Today Show, WNET, WNYC, Newsweek, Family Circle, Reader's Digest, The Herald Sun (Durham, North Carolina), NY Post, NY Times and NY Daily News.
